Rowan's French Focus Week
A Celebration of Language and Culture: French Focus Week at Rowan
This week, Rowan was immersed in all things French as we celebrated French Focus Week! Each year group across the Hill worked on exciting projects during their French lessons, bringing language and culture to life in creative ways.
Throughout the week, girls were encouraged to speak as much French as possible, with teachers taking the register in French and pupils using simple phrases such as bonjour, merci, and s’il vous plaît throughout the day. Years 4, 5, and 6 had the chance to put their “phrases of the week” into practice, making the school feel even more like a little corner of France.
It was wonderful to hear students sharing their personal connections to France, from memories of trips to Paris and ski holidays in the Alps to favourite French books and well-known personalities.
It was a week of exciting activities:
• Break Times: The playground was filled with the sounds of pétanque and other traditional French games, which the girls thoroughly enjoyed.
• Assembly: The French assembly was a highlight of the week, with students singing the chorus of Aux Champs-Élysées with enthusiasm. A big thank you to the teachers and students who practised beforehand!
• Delicious Lunch: Lunchtime was extra special with a delicious French-themed menu on Thursday. A huge thank you to Warren and the catering team for preparing such a fantastic meal!
• Poetry Competition: Year 5 students are practising a poem of their choice ready to read out in the poetry reading competition next week.
• House Quiz: The French-themed house quiz has been sent home - we look forward to receiving the responses and to announcing the results soon.
• French & Art Display: The French classroom was transformed into a mini art gallery, showcasing students’ fantastic work from both their French and Art lessons.
French Focus Week was a wonderful opportunity for our girls - and staff - to immerse themselves in language and culture, and it was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm throughout the school. Bravo à toutes!
