The Splendour of Autumn at Kew Gardens
On a glorious, sunny and crisp Autumn morning, Year 4 headed down to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew.
The girls enjoyed a day of basking in the last of the year’s sunshine whilst exercising their skills of scientific observation and botanical drawing. The experts at Kew led an informative workshop called ‘Plant Hunters’ where the girls found out all about plant classification and how Kew plays such an important role in the world’s plant conservation. The girls were able to interview a Kew botanist who travels the world gathering specimens from as far as the Amazon rainforest!
After a picnic lunch by the giant Palm House, the girls wandered through the gardens taking in the splendours of the giant installation, The Hive, The Royal Palace of Queen Charlotte and George Third and the tropical palms in the Palm house. They even managed to practise their climbing skills in the Children’s Garden.
