Surrey Hockey Success

As the temperatures start to dip, the U10 Rowan Hockey Team braved the Baltic elements of Woking Hockey Club for their Surrey Hockey Championship. Three colossal battles in the group awaited the girls before hopefully embarking on the knockout phase. Danes Hill put up some serious competition in the first match. Both teams with chances to win but the points shared, honours even, 1-1 the score. St George's up next, a formidable school with a rich hockey history. 1-0 Rowan, with a few chances too. Rowan fighting for top spot out of the group. Halstead for the final game of the pool. Danes Hill had won 3-0 against them in the previous match. Rowan needed to match or better that to top the group. The girls managed to find 2 goals but couldn't force the ball over the line for the third despite numerous chances. Halstead finishing the game with only 6 players due to injuries!

2nd in the group, a strong showing. This meant Hoebridge in the semi-final. A strong start from Hoebridge put them a goal ahead. Rowan came roaring back with chance after chance, even managing to put the ball in the goal but an earlier infringement chalked the goal off! Minutes left, Rowan levelled things up and the final whistle brought the game to an abrupt end after lots of end to end action. 3 minutes of Golden Goal Extra Time ensued, which felt like 30 minutes! Rowan with lots of chances again but couldn't break the dead lock and after a short period of pressure, Hoebridge found the all important winning goal.

Rowan faced Freeman's in the 3rd/4th place playoff. A strong showing from all of the girls meant that Rowan won 3-0 and finished 3rd.

Congratulations to all girls involved, a great team showing in Icelandic conditions!
