A Rowan Christmas at Holy Trinity Church, Claygate

The traditional Rowan Christmas Carol Service heralds the festive start to the season for many of us. On Monday, after rehearsing and preparing for their special day, the girls in Years 3-6 took their seats in anticipation of performing a feast of Christmas carols, poems and readings to celebrate this wonderful time of year together.

The festively decorated church and candlelight always give a very special setting for the two services. Violette, our choir prefect, set the tone with her solo verse of ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, and as Year 6 processed down the aisle with red candlelit lanterns, the congregation knew they were in for a treat of heart-warming carols and music. John Rutter’s arrangements are always a favourite, and the Rowan Singers’ performance of ‘Angels’ Carol’ and Year 6’s interpretation of ‘Star Carol’, were beautifully sung. As in previous years, the Chamber Choir were joined by parents and staff, and sang ‘God Bless Us Everyone’ as a very fitting message to all as we celebrate Christmas with family and friends.
