Every girl benefits from the exceptional sports provision at Rowan.
The PE, games and swimming curriculums are taught by subject specialists from Nursery to Year 6 with the girls acquiring knowledge, understanding and skills of a wide range of sports with fixtures and clubs available to all. Inter-house tournaments and galas reinforce the school’s ‘I can, I can, I know I can’ ethos and participation is encouraged through an inclusive programme that incorporates health-related fitness, gymnastics, dance, badminton, cricket, football, athletics, netball, hockey, lacrosse, pop-lacrosse, cross country and swimming. The value of teamwork, how effort can bring reward and dealing gracefully with both success and failure is learnt through friendly fixtures with other local schools – all important lifelong lessons.
Fixtures are regularly organised with local schools and offer every girl from Year 2 to Year 6 the opportunity to play and develop their skills.
Rowan has enjoyed success in all major sports at regional and national levels including being Surrey Acro Gymnastics Champions, Surrey Hockey Plate winners, finalists in ESSA and IAPS swimming championships, finalists in London Athletics and Surrey Tennis events. Our under 11's won the 2019 IAPS Regional Hockey tournament.
Impressive sports facilities are available to the pupils with on-site netball and tennis courts, hockey astro and games pitches at Oaken Lane and Hinchley Wood and the use of an indoor swimming pool.
Masterclasses
We hold regular masterclasses with senior schools, who lead specialist coaching sessions for all year groups. These opportunities have proven hugely beneficial to our potential sport scholars.
Clubs
The girls are encouraged and are keen to participate in the co-curricular activities available at Rowan, and with over 20 sports clubs, there is something for everyone. Whether your daughter enjoys football, rugby, sh’bam or running, the opportunity is there to develop her talents. Clubs take place both before the school day commences, during lunchtime and after school and include athletics, gymnastics, judo, cricket and tennis.
Elite Programmes and Scholarships
Rowan has a swimming and gymnastics squad where athletes are invited to attend an extra training session once a week and go on to represent the school at both county and national level.
Sports Camps
Pre-season sports camps that run during the holidays are open to girls from Year 2 to Year 6. These fun camps are led by the sports department and prepare the girls for the next term of sport.
Sports Tours and Ski Trip
With both a Sports Tour and a Ski Trip available to girls in Years 5 and 6, sport at Rowan really does give every girl the opportunity to try new experiences and grow in confidence
